Who: Scientists reviewing many studies on people with depression
What: Scientists studying creatine and how it affects depression
Where: The study was done mainly in the United States, and some of the studies were done in Brazil
When: It’s published on November 6, 2025
Why: The researchers wanted to see if creatine might work as an extra treatment for people whose depression isn’t fully helped by regular medication
Summary
In the article, the researchers looked at whether creatine can help with depression. They found that creatine might slightly lower depressive symptoms, but the evidence isn’t very consistent. In most studies, the difference in depression scores was too small to really matter. A lot of the studies also had issues, like not having enough people and being done in different ways, which made them hard to compare. Because the research isn’t very strong yet, the authors say it’s too early to say creatine can be used as a real treatment for depression, and more studies are needed.

My Opinion
In my opinion, it’s interesting to think about whether creatine could really help people with depression. The article says that “creatine may slightly ease depressive symptoms.” I also saw that creatine supplements usually cost around CAD $30–50 for a container, which is cheaper than many treatments or therapy. Because of that, creatine could be more accessible to people who don’t have a lot of money. People also usually think creatine is “widely used to improve sports performance,” but this research helps break that stereotype. According to the website, creatine also plays “a vital role in brain energy homeostasis,” so it doesn’t have to be seen as something only bodybuilders use. I think this makes creatine worth researching more, but since the evidence is still weak, I don’t think it should be considered a real treatment for depression yet.
